The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has endorsed the growing call for former President Goodluck Jonathan to join the presidential race in 2027.
This comes after Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, expressed his support for Jonathan’s candidacy, even offering to drop his own presidential ambitions if Jonathan agrees to run.
The PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, stated that the party is “absolutely in support” of Governor Mohammed’s position, citing Jonathan’s experience and ability to revamp the economy.
Abdullahi also highlighted Jonathan’s nationalist credentials and his willingness to accept defeat in the 2015 presidential election.
However, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the PDP’s move, saying it’s too early to be talking about the 2027 elections.
The APC’s National Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, mocked the PDP, saying they are showing signs of desperation and warned that Jonathan would face defeat if he runs against President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
