Functional Security Is lacking In Anambra state – Dr. Ndubisi Ugo

Sharing is caring

A prince of Nnewi kingdom from the Obi Uruagu-Nnewi dynasty, Dr. George Ndubisi Ugo, has appealed to Governor Charles Soludo to do everything possible to ensure that people coming for the forthcoming Christmas festivity are not harassed by kidnappers, armed robbers and bandits.

He gave the advice on Sunday, November 24, during an outing service organized for late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah at St. Peter Claver’s Catholic Church, Umuanuka-Otolo Nnewi, Anambra state.

He said, “Security situation in Anambra, as far as I’m concerned, is ‘everybody on his own.’ Security is not functioning properly here. Today, you hear about this crime; tomorrow, you hear about another.

“All of us are witnesses that Senator Ifeanyi Ubah provided security gadgets and equipment worth several hundreds of millions of naira to security agencies in Anambra. Those days, security situation improved. Today, it is not so.

“The primary responsibility of any government is the security of lives and property. Absence of security signals absence of functional government. Killings, kidnapping and banditry cannot be going on repeatedly under the watch of the executive governor of Anambra state without any reasonable solution.”

On the replacement of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah at the red Chambers with his widow, Chinwe, Dr. Ugo cautioned those sponsoring such campaigns to allow her focus in mourning her husband as demanded by Nnewi custom and tradition.

Senator Ali Ndume had moved a motion on the floor of the senate urging that Ubah’s widow should be given the opportunity to serve out her late husband’s tenure, as a way to sustain his patrimony.

But Dr. Ugo disagreed, arguing that the way politics is practiced in Nigeria is too deadly for fragile minds, and those who are not used to the terrain.

He said, “My advice is that late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s widow should mourn her late husband, live happy life with her kids, and also look after her late husband’s many businesses.

“Everyone has his own area of specialization. Ubah’s widow delving into politics, a terrain she is not used to, cannot be easy for her.

“Ifeanyi Ubah’s widow must not be in the senate chamber to sustain her husband’s legacy. Senator Ubah had already immortalized himself in the hearts of thousands of people he built in different ways.”

Dr. Ugo, who described late Senator Ubah as a trail blazer, industrialist of repute, great mentor and political icon, also urged Nnewi community to name a strategic place in Nnewi after late Senator Ubah as a way to keep his memory alive.
