The court of Appeal in Lagos has upheld the ruling of the Enugu state House Of Assembly election petition tribunal which dismissed the petition of Labour party candidate Thaddeus Utazi.

In doing so the Court upheld the election of Hon. Chukwuma Martins Ekwueme as the member representing Uzouwani Constituency in Enugu State House of Assembly.

Utazi had approached the tribunal challenging the election of Ekwueme on the grounds that he wasn’t a member of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and alleged irregularities of name in his certificate.

The trial court had dismissed the petition for lacking in merit and a waste of time as the petitioner failed to prove any case of forgery and issue of nomination is a pre-election matter.

Not satisfied, Utazi headed to appeal court to challenge the ruling of the tribunal.

In a judgement delivered via Zoom, the judge dismissed the appeal for lacking in merit and upheld the election of Hon. Ekwueme.
