Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham could be out of action for weeks after sustaining a calf injury during training.
His absence will no doubt be a significant blow to both Real Madrid and England, especially with the Nations League campaign just around the corner.
The 21-year-old midfielder suffered the injury during a training session on Friday and was unable to finish the session.
Real Madrid has confirmed that Bellingham underwent medical tests on Friday to assess the extent of the injury.
The club has stated that his progress will be monitored, but reports from Spain suggest that he could be out of action until late September
This would mean that Bellingham will miss England’s opening two fixtures against the Republic of Ireland and Finland in September.
He will also miss Real Madrid’s LaLiga matches against Real Valladolid, Las Palmas, and Real Betis.
Bellingham was a key player for Real Madrid last season, scoring 23 goals in 42 appearances as the club won a La Liga and Champions League double.
His absence will be deeply felt, especially given his importance to the team’s midfield.
England’s interim manager, Lee Carsley, will have to find alternative options for the Nations League fixtures, which is a challenging task given Bellingham’s talent and influence on the pitch.
Carsley is set to name his squad for the fixtures on August 29.
