A new political force, Team Obidient General Worldwide, has been formally inaugurated, with its founder, Hon. Ikenna Azomchine, (popularly known as the Obidient General) declaring total support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu come 2027 presidential election.

The inauguration, which held over the weekend at the Tamarald Event Centre in Jos, Plateau State, drew political stakeholders, youth mobilisers, members of the City Boy Movement, APC leaders and supporters from different parts of the country.

The well-attended event also featured voter education, grassroots sensitisation, induction of new members and strategic discussions on citizen participation in governance ahead of the next election cycle.

The development has also been described by many as a major and notable realignment, given Azomchine’s prominent role in the Obidient Movement during the 2023 general election, where he and the team were widely recognised as part of the grassroots mobilisers who worked for the presidential aspiration of former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.

With e renewed force and vigour, the Obidient General and the team have, however, realigned and declared their full support to the incumbent President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The team has also officially kicked-off the journey with its latest inauguration over the weekend, which featured declaration of full support for the president’s re-election, grassroots sensitization, induction of new members, voter education, among others.

Speaking at the event, Azomchine said the newly-inaugurated platform was established to champion constructive engagement, policy advocacy, voter enlightenment and national development, while also mobilising support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid.

According to him, the movement represents a new force and new direction for Obidients who desire to see Nigeria succeed through active participation in governance rather than remaining perpetual critics of the system.

“What is happening here today is that the Obidient General is starting a new force of movement — Obidients for Tinubu and Obidients who want Nigeria to succeed,” he declared, adding that there’s need for the people to be part of the system and profer solutions, rather than just to always wail and complain.

He argued that members of the Obidient Movement are spread across different political parties and should not be viewed as belonging exclusively to one political tendency.

“The Obidient spirit is organic. We are in all political parties,” he stated, further maintaining that the decision to support President Tinubu was informed by the need to engage government directly and contribute ideas that could help address national challenges.

He explained that the platform would serve as a bridge between citizens and government, enabling young people and politically-conscious Nigerians to contribute meaningfully to policy discussions and nation-building.

The Obidient General further re-emphasized that the initiative would focus on grassroots mobilisation, voter education, peacebuilding, development advocacy and support for government programmes, especially in areas affected by insecurity and infrastructural deficits.

He stressed the need for stronger collaboration between citizens and government institutions, while also advocating improved rural development and increased access to opportunities for young Nigerians.

In one of the major highlights of the event, Azomchine openly pledged that his movement would deploy its structures and influence to mobilise support for President Tinubu ahead of 2027.

“We want the City Boys to know that we are going to partner with them. We want the APC in Plateau State to know that the Obidient General is their own. I am here to tell us that we are going to do the same thing we did for Peter Obi in 2023, and even more, for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. We will mobilise massively for his re-election,” he declared, while calling on Nigerians to identify with the cause and to support President Tinubu’s re-election.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State, Hon. Rufus Bature, described the inauguration of Team Obidient General Worldwide as a welcome development.

Bature commended Azomchine and his supporters for what he described as a courageous political decision, insisting that President Tinubu has performed creditably since assuming office and deserves another term to consolidate ongoing reforms and developmental programmes.

He expressed confidence that the support of the Obidient General and his network would make significant contributions to the President’s re-election effort and urged members of the movement to take the message of what he described as progress and national renewal to Nigerians who may still be sceptical.

On his own part, the Plateau State Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Hon. Peter Zaki, congratulated the group on its inauguration and assured its members of continued partnership and collaboration.

According to him, cooperation among patriotic groups and political stakeholders remains essential for building a stronger, united and prosperous Nigeria.

With the inauguration of Team Obidient General Worldwide, the group says it will commence the consolidation of its structures across the North-Central region before expanding nationwide and into the diaspora as part of preparations for its political and civic engagement programmes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
