Twelve companies based in Anambra state have been awarded the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme certificate by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria for maintaining the prestigious awards of quality.

The awards presentation ceremony took place at the SON office, in Nnewi, Anambra State, on Thursday.

Speaking at the event, the Director General of SON, Mallam Farouk Salim, noted that the awards did not come easy as it involves dedication and commitment by a thorough examination of the manufacturers.

Salim, who was represented by the Regional Director of the organisation, Mathias Bessy, urged the manufacturers not to relent in ensuring that quality is maintained at all times because it is not cheap.

He noted that the standardisation of SMEs, which account for about 39.65 per cent of business in Nigeria and employ more than 87.9 per cent of the nation’s workforce, was of greater interest to the SON.

Out of the 92 testaments, 51 were for revalidation while 41 went for new enlistments for organizations whose items endured the confirmation processes.

The companies include Chrisdon Aluminum, Jezco Oil, Portico Best, Manif Foot/Beverages, Dillys Investment, Donna Summer, P&G Cosmetics, Ucee Kings Aluminum, Dexin Multilinks, Vinval Industries, Eastchase Aluminum, Olympic Technical and Gauze Pharm Ltd.

Others were Debaron Global, Godwin Okafor &Sons, SNF Foods, Gonzilas Aluminum, Comag Industries, Frandoz Industries, Capitol Super Aluminum, Golden Oil,

He urged manufacturers to ensure that they imbibe the culture of standards and quality so that Nigeria, as the largest economy in Africa, can occupy its rightful place in the comity of nations.
According to him the scheme is part of the efforts by SON to ensure that made-in-Nigeria products meet global acceptance and are capable of competing favourably with their foreign counterparts.

He called on manufacturers to enroll in the programme because that is the only way they could know the requirements of the Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS) and also get support towards attaining those standards.
