The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed Musa Aliyu as the substantive chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The development followed a thorough screening process during a plenary session on Thursday.

The session began around 11:50 am, initiated by the Senate’s leader, Bamidele Opeyemi, who requested the suspension of relevant Senate rules to permit the presence of individuals not typically in the chamber for this exceptional occasion.

Musa Aliyu, a legal practitioner who has previously served as the Attorney-General of Jigawa State, underwent the screening process with the Committee. The session was presided over by Deputy President Jibirin Barau.

This confirmation follows President Bola Tinubu’s official request to the Senate, submitted on Wednesday, seeking the endorsement of Musa Aliyu as the chairman of the ICPC.

The appointment holds significant importance as the ICPC plays a crucial role in combating corruption and related offenses in Nigeria. Aliyu’s confirmation underscores the government’s commitment to addressing corruption and promoting transparency and accountability in the nation.
