The Majority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, says it is untrue that the Assembly members are divided over the moves to impeach the state’s deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, over alleged gross misconduct.
Eleven members of the Assembly, including two principal officers, had in a statement on Friday dissociated themselves from a fresh letter sent to the Ondo State Chief Judge, Justice Olusegun Odusola, to set up a panel to probe Aiyedatiwa.
The fresh letter to the CJ came about a week after the Ondo lawmakers had earlier said they were dropping the impeachment proceedings against Aiyedatiwa, following the intervention of the national leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Abuja.

1The 11 lawmakers said the report of the fresh letter to the CJ came to them as a shock, insisting that the Assembly had dropped the planned impeachment of the deputy governor.
“As members of the 10th Ondo State House of Assembly, we wish to inform the public and the good people of Ondo State that the letter purported to have been written by members of the 10th Assembly, signed by Rt. Hon. Oladiji Olamide Adesanmi, Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, dated 23rd October 2023, transmitted to the Chief Judge of Ondo State, requesting the Chief Judge to constitute a seven-man panel to investigate the allegations of gross misconduct against the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, came to us on social media as a rude shock, as the said letter did not emanate from any of the sittings of members of Ondo State House of Assembly,” the eleven lawmakers had said.
But speaking at the weekend, the Majority Leader, Ogunmolasuyi, insisted that the House remained united in the decision to probe and impeach the deputy governor.
Aiyedatiwa and the governor Rotimi Akeredolu have been at logger heads. The deputy governor was accused of plotting to remove the governor while the governor was away on a medical vacation in Germany.
