A total of thirteen suspected armed robbers and vandals have so far been arrested in Okoh Community in Orumba North local government area of Anambra state.
Similarly the Command has continued the raid of major security black spots in Awka ahead of this year’s Imo Awka Festival which led to the arrest of another suspected gunmen in the area.
However the Command has intensified the manhunt for a kingpin popularly known as “Kiss Me” alleged to have been involved in the vandalisation of electricity wires as well as armed robbery.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochikwu Ikenga the raid on Awka Capital is a proactive measure to ensure a hitch free Imo Awka festival which had in the past resulted in cult related killings in the town.
“The Anambra State Police Command, acting on information received overtime on how miscreants, under the guise of celebrating the Imoka festival, engaged in criminal activities, become unruly, and make life unbearable for the good people of the State, especially residents and indigene of Awka, have intensified raid and discreet operations on some identified black spots in Awka and its environs”
“Given the above, Police Operatives attached to the Rapid Respond Squad (RRS) Awka sector in the late evening of the 19th of May, 2025 arrested one Nasiru Samaila ‘M’ aged 25 years”
“They have also recovered one locally made Beretta pistol, one live ammunition, one knife, a large quantity of substance suspected to be hard drugs, in Awka”
“The suspect in a bid to escape started shooting indiscriminately, but was subdued by the Police team that fired him on his right leg. Unfortunately, one of the police operatives sustained a gunshot injury and has been taken to the hospital where he is currently responding to treatment”
Contouring Ikenga reported that ;
“The Joint security team comprising the Police and Operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante continues with their security dominance operations in the three senatorial districts of the State.”
” Following this, the security team has sustained their security offensive in the area, arrested six suspects over armed robbery and vandalism in Oko community and environs. The Operatives have also declared a manhunt for a notorious cultist and gunrunner known as *Kiss me*”
“They have also recovered one English pistol and vandalized electric cables in separate operations in the area.
“In the evening of 19th May, 2025, two suspects namely: Anagor Chinedu ‘M’ aged 25 years and Anagor Rapuluchukwu ‘M’ aged 23 years were arrested at Ifite village, Oko and one English Beretta pistol was recovered”
“The suspects confessed to being members of beggars’ confraternity and mentioned their Armourer as ‘kiss me’. Meanwhile, the Operatives have launched a manhunt operation aimed at dislodging the criminal group.
“In another development, the Operatives responded swiftly to a distress call of some miscreants sighted vandalizing electrical wires at the permanent site of the Federal Polytechnic Oko and arrested four suspects: one Chukwuka Usulor, Chukwuemeka Michael, Ikenna Oke and Ebuka Okeke. The Operatives recovered some assorted quantities of cable wires” he concluded.
