The Governor of Ebonyi, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has expressed displeasure over the poor environmental condition of the capital city and its environs.
He noted that the dirty state of the environment constitutes health hazards to the residents of the state and will no longer be tolerated.
The Governor has directed the State Commissioner for Environment to immediately ensure that all refuse dumps are evacuated within the next 24 hours and failure to comply strictly with the directive will attract severe sanctions.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Monday Uzor released a statement which contains the Governor’s stern warning.
“I want to warn the commissioner for Environment for the last time to sit up and do the work and get the environment clean because I will not spare him if found wanting this time around”.
The Governor tasked residents of the State to cooperate with government and ensure strict compliance to environmental sanitation measures already in place.
Dr Monday further urges the residents of the state to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on medians of the road and blocking of drainage system but should rather use designated dump sites.
He also noted that the Governor himself has vowed that he will personally move round the City to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
