The Management of FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has taken steps to deepen its relationship with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra State, following a courtesy visit to the State Coordinator and management of the scheme aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration and expanding opportunities for corps members.

Led by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FirstPower, Engr. Okechukwu Okafor; the visit, which held at the NYSC State Coordinator’s office in Awka on Wednesday, was joined by some top Management staff of the company; the Chief Technical Officer, Engr. Dr. Emeka Egbujor; Chief Commercial Officer, Dr. Priscilla Obi; Head of Human Resources, Mrs. Oge Morah; and the Head of Communications.

Speaking during the visit, Engr. Okafor said one of the key objectives of the engagement was to strengthen the existing relationship between both institutions and seek increased deployment of corps members, particularly those with relevant professional backgrounds, to FirstPower.

He gave an overview of the company, highlighting its mandate as the electricity distribution company serving Anambra State, its ongoing transformation efforts, customer-focused initiatives, and commitment to delivering reliable electricity services across the state.

The MD described FirstPower as one of the largest employers of labour in Anambra State and the South-East, noting that the company provides enormous opportunities for young professionals to acquire practical industry experience.

According to him, FirstPower is particularly interested in corps members with backgrounds in engineering, electrical and electronics, law, accounting, and other related disciplines.

He explained that increased deployment of corps members to the organisation would not only bridge manpower gaps in specialised areas but would also expose young graduates to practical experience in Nigeria’s power sector, preparing them for future careers while also contributing meaningfully to national development.

Engr. Okafor further identified several areas where FirstPower and the NYSC could collaborate, including technical training, capacity building, community development initiatives, energy awareness campaigns, innovation, and professional mentorship programmes.

He assured that the company would continue to provide an enabling environment where corps members can learn, develop practical skills, build professional competence and make meaningful contributions to the organisation throughout their service year.

Responding, the Anambra State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua, welcomed the FirstPower delegation and commended the company for identifying with the Scheme and demonstrating interest in the development of Nigerian youths.

She expressed delight over FirstPower’s readiness to absorb more corps members, describing the company as a strategic organisation capable of providing valuable practical exposure and professional experience, especially for graduates in technical and specialised fields.

Mrs. Ojisua, the 15th State Coordinator of the NYSC in Anambra State, stressed the importance of corps members’ welfare, urging organisations hosting them to continue providing a safe, conducive and rewarding working environment that would enable them to maximise the objectives of the National Youth Service Corps programme.

She also appealed to FirstPower to explore ways of improving electricity supply to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in the state. While noting that commencement of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Orientation Course is scheduled to begin on August 4, the NYSC State Coordinator emphasized that stable electricity would greatly enhance camp administration and the overall experience of corps members in Anambra State.

The State Coordinator expressed optimism that the cordial relationship between both institutions would continue to grow, assuring that the NYSC would sustain engagements with FirstPower in areas of mutual interest for the benefit of both organisations and the young Nigerians participating in the scheme.
