The Management of FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has appointed Engr. Onyebuchi Christian Nwokafor and Mr. Everistus Matthew Obeta as the pioneer Regional Commercial Heads for Regions 1 and 2 respectively, as part of its strategic moves aimed at strengthening the company’s commercial operations, improving efficiency and enhancing service delivery across its expanding network.
The appointments, which take effect from August 1, 2026, followed an internal advertisement for the newly created positions, a competitive application process and rigorous interviews conducted by the company.
Under the new structure, the Regional Commercial Head for Region 1 will be based at the company’s Corporate Headquarters in Awka and oversee the Awka, Enugu-Ukwu, Onitsha, Nkwelle and Ekwulobia Districts, while the Regional Commercial Head for Region 2 will be based at the Ogidi Corporate Headquarters and supervise the Ogidi, Obosi, Aguleri, Ogbaru and Nnewi Districts.
The appointment letters were presented to the two new Regional Heads by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FirstPower, Engr. Okechukwu Okafor, at the company’s Headquarters in Awka on Tuesday, July 21.
Prior to their latest appointments, Engr. Nwokafor was the District Business Manager for Ogbaru District, while Mr. Obeta was the District Business Manager for Ekwulobia District, where they were both making their marks in overseeing the affairs of their respective districts.
Addressing the new Regional Heads shortly after presenting their appointment letters to them, the MD urged them to approach their new responsibilities with integrity, discipline, dedication and a strong commitment to the company’s growth.
Okafor, who reflected on his own leadership journey and the values that shaped his career, encouraged the appointees to remain consistent and steadfast in upholding high standards, regardless of pressures or distractions, while warning them against corruption, extortion, bribery and abuse of office.
He charged them to be visible in the field, maintain close contact with customers and staff, and personally monitor activities across their respective regions rather than relying solely on reports from subordinates. He also urged them to mentor both senior and junior staff, set good examples and help change the narrative of commercial operations across the company.
According to him, the creation of the two regional offices is part of a broader corporate strategic alignment designed to improve coordination and reduce the workload of the Chief Commercial Officer, Dr. Mrs. Nnenna Obi, who previously had to directly oversee commercial activities across all the company’s districts.
The MD further tasked the new Regional Heads to work closely with District Business Managers, District Commercial Managers and other field teams to drive revenue growth, strengthen revenue protection, improve customer alignment, reduce debts and ensure that FirstPower’s commercial operations deliver greater value to the company and its customers.
On her own part, the Head of Human Resources, Mrs. Oge Morah, said the appointments formed part of Management’s broader efforts to expand the business and improve operational efficiency.
Morah explained that the company had expanded from seven districts to ten within a year, necessitating a new regional structure that would provide closer supervision and more effective coordination of commercial activities. She noted that each Regional Commercial Head would oversee five districts and support the Chief Commercial Officer in ensuring that the districts operate more efficiently and profitably, even as she also expressed optimism and confidence in their abilities to deliver optimally.
In their separate reactions, Nwokafor and Obeta expressed appreciation to the Management of FirstPower for the confidence reposed in them, pledging to justify the trust by bringing their wealth of experience closer to the field and working with their respective teams to advance the company’s commercial objectives.
The duo also expressed readiness to collaborate with district and departmental heads, strengthen customer engagement, improve revenue performance and contribute to the overall growth and sustainability of FirstPower in their new capacities.
The two Regional Commercial Heads are expected to officially assume their new responsibilities from August 1, 2026.
