Colleagues Of Slain Teacher In Delta State Down Tools, Demand Justice.

Teachers of Alihami Mixed Secondary School in Agbor, Delta state have protested the death of their colleagues who was flogged to death by a parent of one of their students

The teacher Sunday Ufuah died after he was attacked by one Mr Nweke whose child is a student of the school

According to reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday after some students allegedly scaled the school’s fence and stole palmwine at a shop outside the school promises.

The boys were thereafter identifies and punished. One of the boys, a JSS 1 student went home and told his father that he was punished

The parent stormed the school angrily with a cane and started molesting and flogging some of the teachers. The deceased who was before his death the Physics teacher collapsed and died in the process. 

Efforts to reach the school authorities proved abortive as the school was shut when our reporter got there

However the Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, Mr. Bright Edafe confirmed the incident, saying “suspect is in custody and investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile the State Commissioner for Secondary Education Commissioner, Mrs Rose Ezewu, has assured the family of the late teacher that they will get justice

Speaking at the Boji Boji Owa residence of the late teacher, she condemned the attack, adding that the State Government would not condone attacks on teachers in the state.

She assured that the government would act within the confines of the law to make sure that the family of Mr Sunday Ufuah gets justice.

She also announced full scholarship for the children of the late teacher which will cover their secondary school education

She said “Whoever does not want their children to be taught good morals should keep them at home. Having been a committed teacher who died while carrying out his duty, his children are hereby given scholarship which will cover their secondary education”

Continuing Ezewu said “I share more in your grief because Mr Ufuah was one of us in the teaching profession. How irresponsibility has so degenerated in our society to the extent that parents now invade schools to assault their children’s teachers for correcting them calls for concern.

The school has remained shut since the incident occurred
