The Borno State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of the State’s Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Ibrahim Idriss Garba.

Garba died, on Saturday morning, October 21 in Maiduguri, according to a statement by Governor Babagana Zulum’s spokesman, Isa Gusau.

The investigation, according to Gusau, in a statement, is at the behest of Governor, Babagana Zulum and the State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Yusuf, who was at the house of the deceased to commiserate with his family.

“Governor Babagana Zulum received the news with intense shock and profound grief,” Gusau said in the statement, adding, “The Governor mourns alongside the late commissioner’s family, other loved ones, friends, associates, and members of the state executive council.”

Late Ibrahim Idriss Garba was the Governor’s Special Adviser on Special Projects before he was elevated and appointed commissioner of RRR, at the commencement of Zulum’s ongoing second term.

The cause of his death is still unknown, but some sources said the young commissioner, who also served as Special Adviser on Projects Monitoring, is suspected to have died from a heart attack, while others said he may have been poisoned.

Idris was one of the 17 new commissioners sworn in on August 10, 2023, by Governor Babangana Zulum to constitute the state executive council for the ongoing second term which began on May 29, 2023.
