The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced that its security arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), is funded through voluntary donations and contributions from supporters worldwide.
This statement was made in response to recent assertions by the Nigerian Army, which claimed to have recovered N11 million and $21,000 during an operation at an alleged ESN camp in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area of Abia State.
In a statement from IPOB’s spokesperson, Comrade Emma Powerful, the organization categorically denied the existence of such a camp or any substantial cash amounts, labeling the military’s claims as “false and misleading.”
“If IPOB possessed such funds, they would be invested in developmental programs such as our Agricultural Revolution project,” the group asserted. They further clarified that all financial resources are utilized transparently and focused on community-driven initiatives.
IPOB highlighted that ESN operatives are volunteers dedicated to protecting local communities from criminal activities, especially in rural areas where farmers are facing persistent security challenges.
The organization urged the public to scrutinize unverified reports and called on security agencies to exhibit greater professionalism and objectivity in their communications.
