A 16-year-old boy, Favour Ayogu, who was allegedly abducted in Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, has been rescued by security operatives in Onitsha, Anambra State.
According to a statement issued to newsmen on Monday, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Toochukwu Ikenga said the boy was abandoned by his suspected abductors near a security checkpoint along Oguta Road, Onitsha, on Sunday evening, September 13, 2026.
The PPRO said the rescue followed improved strategic joint security operations in the state.
According to him, a joint patrol team operating at Ekene Junction along Oguta Road intercepted the teenager after unidentified persons reportedly dropped him from a black Toyota Highlander SUV close to the security checkpoint.
The police spokesman said the swift intervention of the joint patrol team led to the boy’s rescue and also prevented him from suffering further harm, the Command said.
Following the development, the Police Command said it had intensified surveillance and other intelligence-led measures aimed at identifying, tracing and arresting members of the suspected gang responsible for the alleged abduction.
The Command also appealed to members of the public, particularly residents of Igboeze South and Ibagwa-Aka in Enugu State, who may have information that could assist in locating the boy’s family, to contact the nearest police station or the Anambra State Police Command.
Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the joint patrol team for its vigilance and professionalism in rescuing the teenager.
CP Ama also urged security personnel to sustain intelligence-led patrols, strategic checkpoints and coordinated security operations across the state.
The Command further reassured residents and visitors of its commitment to protecting lives and property, responding swiftly to distress situations and ensuring that criminal elements have no safe haven in Anambra State.
