…As Six Senior Civil Servants Won Brand New Cars, Five Others, N5 Million Each
The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday urged civil servants in the states to recommit themselves to excellence, just as he declared that the state’s civil service has become a model for other sub-nationals in the country.
The Governor gave the charge in his speech at the Special Luncheon with the Year 2024 Outstanding Public Servants in Lagos State, held at Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, The Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, urging staffers on the states payroll, not only to sustain their dedication to the reputation if the state as model to orders in the country.
While the State’s Civil Service has become the trailblazer in terms of governance and service delivery, Sanwo-Olu charged government workers to see themselves as the Service to beat among its peers, maintaining that there is room for improvement.
A total of 210 out of total 285 selected Senior and Junior officers won awards for outstanding performance. The Governor urged them to rededicate to duty and always reflect excellence in all they do in the State’s Public Service.
He urged the lucky winners not to relent in their efforts at being the best as they remain ahead by challenging the status quo.
The Governor, while applauding their contributions to the development and growth in making the Lagos State public service the best among the rest and an envy all through their positive impacts, also restated the commitment of his administration to make the Service more functional.
In his remarks, the Head of Service, Bode Agoro thanked the Governor for his unwavering commitment to prioritising staff matters and welfare and approving end of the year hundred percent basic salaries payments of 13th month as end of the year bonus.
Welcoming participants to the event, Agoro said the auspicious occasion is specially set aside to recognize Officers who have been adjudged outstanding in both the Junior and Senior Categories across Ministries, adding that the event also marks the Grand Finale of activities commemorating the Year 2024 Public Service Week.
He congratulated the three hundred and sixty one officers who were earlier recognised for long service awards and the two hundred and ten in the Senior and junior categories who were given the outstanding staff awards, as well as those who won cars and cash rewards at the event.
He also explained the criteria of selection for Friday awardees, among which were Expertise on the Job, Creativity, Honesty, Initiative, Reliability, Moral Leadership, Punctuality, Team Work, Human Relations and significant
individual achievements.
“The next phase of the process was the issuance of Internal Memo constituting Screening Committees in Ministries, Departments and Agencies service-wide, including Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas Statewide and calling for nominations by Departments and Units on the basis of the above mentioned criteria.
“The membership of the Ministerial Screening Committees comprised of Directors of Departments who were responsible for the internal screening of the Nominees with the ultimate objective of selecting the Candidates whose names were forwarded to the Public Service Office as Best Officer Nominees, from among whom the State Screening Committee, which comprised Permanent Secretaries, were selected.” He stated.
According to Agoro, a total of 271 Nominations were received from MDAs, LGs and LCDAs for the Year 2024 Best Officers’ Award (Senior and Junior Categories). Out of these nominations, a total of 210 Officers were finally recommended to receive the Outstanding Officers’ Award in line with the afore-stated criteria. The Awardees comprised of 117 for the Senior Category, while 93 Officers were chosen for the Junior Category.
In a raffle draw held at the event and picked by the Governor, six senior staff won cars in the senior staff category.
They were Folarin Timothy, Saliu Oluwasegun Ojedele Idayat, Opeoluwa Moshood, Ogunade Ahmed and Adeleye Saidat. Five junior staff also won 5 Million each in the junior staff category while another 11 won N100,000 each.
The Awards were presented by the Governor and other top functionaries of the state government, including the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Bimbola Salu Hundeyin, Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr Sam Egube among others.
