Frontline APC governorship aspirant Sir Paul Chukwuma has condemned in the strongest terms the wave of violence that rocked Anambra State last Monday, November 18, 2024. Gunmen launched coordinated attacks on community vigilantes in Ukpo and Abatete, leaving five people dead and many others injured. The attacks, reportedly carried out to enforce the Monday sit-at-home order, mark another dark chapter in the state’s ongoing struggle with insecurity.

Reacting to the tragic events, Sir Paul expressed profound sadness over the destruction of property, loss of innocent lives, the trauma on the communities, and the pain inflicted on the victims and their families.

“These senseless killings are a reprehensible act of violence that all must condemn. The lives of our people are sacred, and no one has the right to take them away,” Sir Paul stated. “I extend my deepest sympathies to the families of those who lost their loved ones and assure the injured of our prayers and support during this difficult time.”

Sir Paul criticised the continued insecurity in the state, stressing the urgent need for decisive and effective action. He urged the government to prioritise the safety of its citizens and devise a sustainable solution to end the recurring violence.

“It is unacceptable that our people cannot go about their daily lives without fear. The government must step up its efforts to protect lives and restore peace. The time for half-measures has long passed. Anambra deserves lasting security,” he said.

Sir Paul also expressed disappointment that 24 hours after the attack, the state government has yet to issue a statement or provide details about the incident. He called for greater transparency and accountability in addressing the state’s security challenges.

“This silence is deafening and sends the wrong message. Our people need proactive, responsive, and committed leadership to safeguard their lives and livelihoods,” Sir Paul added.

As the state mourns another tragic loss, Sir Paul reassured the people of his unwavering commitment to prioritising security if given the mandate to lead. “Anambra cannot thrive in fear. Together, we must work towards a future where every citizen can live and work peacefully,” he concluded.
