As the burial of the former President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, approaches, Senator Ben Obi, head of the burial planning committee, has confirmed the participation of several high-profile Nigerians.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, all five South-East governors, and Yoruba leader Ayo Adebanjo are among the notable figures expected to attend the ceremony. Chief Iwuanyanwu, a renowned entrepreneur and politician, will be laid to rest on November 1 at his hometown of Attah in Imo State.
During a press briefing in Abuja on Saturday, Obi, represented by Prof. Ike Ikechukwu, Chairman of the Media Sub-committee, stated that the preparations were well underway, with ongoing efforts to raise awareness among key stakeholders, both locally and internationally.
“We have been actively engaging with respected elder statesmen, key stakeholders, friends, and well-wishers from within and outside the country,” Obi said.
He added that during their last meeting, the South-East governors reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that Chief Iwuanyanwu is given a dignified and fitting farewell. National leaders and the diaspora community are also organizing events to honor the late Ahaejiagamba.
“As we previously announced, the series of activities in his honor will culminate with his final interment on November 1, 2024,” Obi concluded.
