Resident Doctors Embark on 7-Day Warning Strike Over Colleague’s Abduction

Sharing is caring

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has declared a seven-day warning strike starting today, August 26, 2024, over the abduction of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, who was kidnapped nearly eight months ago.

The strike will be total, with no concessions or emergency care during this period.

Dr. Popoola, a registrar in the Department of Ophthalmology at the National Eye Centre in Kaduna, was abducted on December 27, 2023, along with her husband and nephew.

While her husband was released in March, Dr. Popoola and her nephew remain in captivity.

This strike is a result of the NARD’s demand for Dr. Popoola’s release, which has been ongoing, with protests in all tertiary hospitals across the nation.

NARD President, Dr. Dele Abdullahi, confirmed the strike, stating that it would commence at midnight and would be total, with no emergency care provided during the period.
