40 Years Boundary Dispute: Anambra State Deputy Governor Dr Ibezim Urges Okprze/Amaetiti Communities To Embrace Peace

Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, who doubled as the Chairman of Anambra State Boundary Committee alongside the Special Adviser to Governor on Boundary Matters, Hon. Kenechukwu Okoye visited the disputed areas in Orumba North local government area, Anambra State.


Speaking during the visitation, Dr. Ibezim appreciated them for their truthfulness, stating that Governor Soludo’s administration is desirous and committed to restore peace in Okpeze and Amaetiti. He said, they have responsibility of providing enabling environment through which the objective could be achieved by blunting the edges of disagreement so that government could do the needful to restore peace back to the two communities.

Dr. Ibezim reiterated that administration of Governor Soludo remained committed to the course of development across the state, and for which peace is an indispensable factor.
He added that, their complaints have been noted and it will be taken care of.

Earlier on, a representative from Okpeze, Mr. Victor Nwumele asked the people of Amaetiti on their aim behind peace resolution since they took the matter to court which the judgement wasn’t in their favour.

Responding, a representative from Amaetiti, Dr. Anthony Nwafor said, when the boundary dispute started, Anambra State government mandated some kings to look into the matter and at the end of the panel, they gave judgment in Amaetiti favour and they all embraced peace but after 10 years, Okpeze people took some of Amaetiti people to police station and that was where the court proceedings started.

The boundary dispute has lasted for over 40 years and Anambra State Government is set to restore peace in the two communities.

They commended Governor Charles Soludo for intervening in the situation and promised to obey the decision of the government.

Highlight of the resolution was setting up committee that will look into the matter.
