Sharing is caring

The Governor of Lagos state, Governor Sanwo Olu, has shared some positive news from Lagos State’s participation in the ongoing 28th session of the Conference of Parties (COP28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

He shared that two waste conversion initiatives that he presented at the global climate summit have garnered significant interest from investors.

He also said that these projects are the Advanced Garbage Collection and Waste-to-Energy project, as well as the construction of a new Sewage Treatment Plant.

His statement as released on his social media account reads, “I had the opportunity to announce this development and also present Phase Two of the Lagos State Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan (LCARP) to our global partners.

This progress represents a significant step forward in our journey towards environmental sustainability and resilience in Lagos. It demonstrates our administration’s commitment to improving the lives of Lagosians and maintaining our status as a beacon of progress.

Our engagement at #COP28 is driven by the goal of fostering collaboration and partnership to address the collective threat of climate change. We believe that sustainable solutions to our local environmental challenges can be achieved by working together.

I emphasized that the LCARP document serves as our strategic roadmap towards a sustainable future. This framework identifies 30 ambitious projects spanning critical sectors such as transportation, renewable energy, and waste management. Among the 30 projects, 14 are well-suited for Public-Private Partnerships.

We understand the importance of collaboration and we are actively engaging with potential partners to ensure their involvement in bringing our plans to fruition. We are ready to take the lead and have developed a clear strategy to achieve our climate mitigation objectives.

The success of Lagos on this journey will not only be a success for Nigeria but also an inspiring story of achievement for Africa and the world”.
