The Anambra State Police Command has disrupted a suspected cult-related gathering in Fegge, Onitsha, arresting a 25-year-old man while other persons suspected to be members of the group reportedly fled the scene.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday, saying the incident occurred on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Abagana Street, Fegge, following what he described as credible intelligence received by operatives of the Fegge Police Station.
According to him, the police operatives acted swiftly on the information and moved to the location, where they arrested a suspect identified as Chinedu Ike, aged 25.
Ikenga said other persons suspected to be members of the group fled on sighting the Police.
He further disclosed that during preliminary interrogation, the arrested suspect allegedly admitted to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity.
Following the development, the Command said it had commenced intelligence-led efforts to identify, trace and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Police said the investigation would also seek to establish the possible involvement of the suspects in cult-related activities and other violent crimes within the area.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has consequently directed the immediate transfer of the case to the Violence and Cult-Related Crimes Unit, VCRU, for discreet investigation and further necessary action.
According to the statement issued by Ikenga, the Commissioner reiterated the Command’s resolve to deploy intelligence-led and proactive policing strategies to disrupt cult-related activities and prevent associated acts of violence across the state.
The CP also warned that persons found to be involved in such criminal activities would be made to face the law.
The Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist the Police in identifying and apprehending the fleeing suspects.
The latest operation, the Police said, formed part of its ongoing efforts to use intelligence and proactive policing to prevent cult-related violence and other criminal activities in communities across Anambra.
