The Anambra State Police Command has concluded investigation into the case of a 36-year-old woman allegedly involved in sexual abuse of her child with sex toy, while also arraigning six other suspects before the Gender-Based Violence Court sitting in Awka over separate cases involving alleged defilement, sexual assault, child abuse, assault and unlawful procurement of abortion.
The six suspects were arraigned before the court on September 23, 2026, following the conclusion of investigations into their respective cases.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, one of the suspects, Chinedu Chiekwu, a male from Umuoli Village, was arraigned over the alleged defilement of an 11-year-old child on September 6, 2026.
Another suspect, Sunday Anele, was arraigned over an allegation of engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl, which allegedly resulted in pregnancy.
Also arraigned was Ugochukwu Okereke, who was accused of luring a 13-year-old girl to a nearby bush where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.
Similarly, Ebuka Nwachukwu was arraigned over an allegation that he lured a six-year-old girl into his room at Okpoko and allegedly sexually abused her.
The fifth suspect, Ogechi Ofoma, a female resident of Awada, Obosi, was arraigned over an allegation of using a heated kitchen knife to inflict multiple injuries on her five-year-old daughter, identified as Oluebube Ofoma.
The sixth suspect, Obianuju Okafor, was arraigned over an allegation relating to the unlawful procurement of abortion for her 15-year-old daughter.
The Police Command also provided an update on the widely circulated video involving a 36-year-old woman, who was allegedly seen engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct involving her child.
The Command said it had concluded investigation into the case and forwarded the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for necessary legal action.
It added that the suspect remained in police custody pending further proceedings.
In his reactions, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons from sexual abuse, exploitation, violence and other forms of harm.
He assured that the Command would continue to ensure that victims and survivors were treated with dignity, sensitivity and appropriate protection throughout the investigative and legal process.
The Commissioner also called for continued cooperation from members of the public in reporting suspected cases of abuse and other crimes against children and vulnerable persons to the appropriate authorities.
