The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered an accelerated and thorough investigation into the suspected murder of a 23-year-old female student whose lifeless body was discovered at her residence in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.

The directive was disclosed in a press statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who said the Police Commissioner had charged investigators to leave no stone unturned in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident and ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

According to the statement, the case has been transferred from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for what it described as a comprehensive and discreet investigation.

The Command explained that the incident was initially reported on June 14, 2026, following the discovery of the young woman’s lifeless body within the compound where she lived as a tenant in Alor.

SP Ikenga stated that police operatives who visited the scene observed a deep cut on the deceased’s thigh, alongside other visible marks of violence on her body and blood stains around the area, circumstances which strongly suggested that she might have been murdered.

The police further revealed that preliminary inquiries identified the deceased as a student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor.

As part of ongoing investigations, the Police Command confirmed that the landlord of the premises has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing interrogation to assist detectives in uncovering the facts surrounding the incident.

The Command also disclosed that the remains of the deceased have been deposited in a hospital mortuary where an autopsy will be conducted to aid the investigation and determine the exact cause of death.

According to the Police Spokesman, CP Orutugu has directed the investigating team to conduct a professional, painstaking and intelligence-driven investigation capable of exposing all those connected with the incident, while reiterating the Command’s resolve to ensure that justice is served.

The Commissioner also reassured members of the public of the Command’s commitment to transparency and accountability in handling the case and appealed to anyone with useful information that could assist the investigation to volunteer such information to the police.

The Command maintained that it remains committed to protecting lives and property while pursuing justice for victims of crime across the state.
