The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has intensified efforts to strengthen security operations across the South-East geopolitical zone with a renewed emphasis on intelligence-led policing, technological innovation and stronger collaboration among security stakeholders.

This formed the focus of an operational tour to Anambra State on Tuesday, where the IGP, who was represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-East, DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, engaged officers of the Anambra State Police Command and other critical stakeholders on strategies for tackling evolving security challenges in the region.

According to a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the nationwide operational tour is part of the Inspector-General’s broader initiative to reinforce Nigeria’s security architecture, improve operational efficiency and deepen synergy among security agencies and relevant stakeholders.

Addressing officers and men of the Command during the engagement, the DIG highlighted the importance of developing practical, intelligence-driven strategies tailored to the peculiar security realities of Anambra State and the wider South-East region.

He also disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force is positioning itself for the future by integrating modern technology into policing operations, even as he further revealed plans for the introduction of Artificial Intelligence into investigative processes, alongside specialised training programmes designed to equip officers with the skills required for technology-driven law enforcement.

The DIG further charged officers to uphold a people-centred policing philosophy anchored on professionalism, accountability, discipline and respect for fundamental human rights, stressing that public trust remains indispensable to effective policing and sustainable security.

Welcoming the Inspector-General’s representative, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, appreciated the operational visit and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the policing vision of the Inspector-General, particularly in strengthening community policing initiatives and enhancing security across the state.

The visit also provided a platform for strategic consultations with relevant stakeholders on holistic security management, intelligence sharing, crime prevention mechanisms and coordinated responses to emerging security threats confronting the South-East.

The Command noted that such engagements remain critical in fostering stronger partnerships between the police and the public, while promoting proactive approaches to crime fighting and public safety.

Reiterating its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Anambra State Police Command assured residents that it would continue to sustain robust collaboration with stakeholders and deploy effective security strategies aimed at preserving peace, enhancing public confidence and creating an enabling environment for socio-economic development in Anambra State and the South-East region.
