A former political appointee in the administration of Anambra State Governor, Charles Chukwuma Soludo, Dr. Nelson Omenugha, has formally resumed his academic duties at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, marking a return to the classroom after four years of public service.
Dr. Omenugha, who served as Special Adviser on Youth Empowerment Programmes during the governor’s first term, disclosed that his return to the Department of Mass Communication signals a “full-circle journey” from academia to governance and back. His return follows the expiration of political appointments and the dissolution of the first-term cabinet as the administration transitions into a new phase.

Reflecting on his time in government through a post shared on his social media handle on Friday, the former aide expressed gratitude to Governor Soludo for what he described as a rare opportunity to contribute to youth-focused policies and initiatives. His role as Special Adviser, it was gathered, placed him at the forefront of programmes aimed at youth engagement, empowerment, and capacity development, in line with the administration’s broader vision for the youths and human capital development.
The erstwhile Special Adviser, who also spoke in an interview with this reporter, noted that the experience gained in public office has significantly enriched his academic perspective, equipping him with practical insights into governance, policy-making, and leadership. According to him, this blend of theory and real-world exposure would enhance his teaching, mentorship, and research engagements within the university system.

Dr. Omenugha further reaffirmed his commitment to teaching, mentoring and shaping a new generation of students who are not only academically sound but also politically conscious and globally competitive. He also encouraged and emphasized the need for young people to build value, develop skills, and pursue purposeful careers rooted in knowledge and service to society.

“As I return to academia, my resolve is stronger – to teach, mentor, and raise a generation that is professionally grounded, politically aware, and globally competitive.
“I encourage every young person in politics to build value, invest in skills, credibility, and purpose. Let every ambition be rooted in knowledge & common good. “For me, it’s a journey with clarity and impact,” he wrote.
