A bush fire outbreak on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, caused panic around the Motor Parts area of Nnewi, in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, before it was swiftly brought under control by operatives of the State Fire Service.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Media and Publicity Unit of the Anambra State Fire Service, the distress call reporting the incident was received at exactly 1415 hours (2:15 p.m.), prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters to the affected location.

The Fire Service confirmed that its gallant firefighters responded promptly and engaged the raging flames, successfully containing the blaze and preventing it from escalating into surrounding areas that could have resulted in widespread damage.

Firefighters, according to the statement, withdrew from the scene at about 1600 hours (4:00 p.m.) after ensuring that the fire had been completely extinguished and the environment made safe.

Although the exact cause of the bush fire could not be immediately confirmed, some residents of Nnewi, through their reactions to the incident, suspected the use of knockouts (fireworks) as the probable cause. The residents hinted that the use of knockouts had become prevalent in the area in the spirit of the approaching festive season.

The Fire Service, while confirming that no casualties were recorded, described the successful containment of the fire as crucial in preventing possible destruction of lives and properties around the densely populated business environment.

The Anambra State Fire Service, however, warned members of the public to exercise extreme caution around dry vegetation, open flames, and combustible materials, especially during the dry season, to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.
