In line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision to transform Anambra State into a livable homeland, modeling Dubai and Taiwan through the transformation of different sectors of the economy, the state government has partnered with transport mogul, Mr. Chinedu Oguegbu, CEO of OMAA Transport company. This collaboration aims to alleviate the transportation challenges in the state, enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.
In an exclusive interview at his office, the company’s Operations Manager, Mr. Dickson Obonyano, revealed that the partnership with the state government stemmed from the founder’s desire to contribute to making Anambra State a livable homeland. As a son of the state from Igbo-Ukwu, the founder aimed to make a meaningful impact in Southeast Region, particularly Anambra State.
Mr. Obonyano explained that O’Link, a division of OMAA Motors, was floated in Anambra State in February 2025 with a vision to revolutionize the transportation system. The goal is to instill a culture of punctuality and bus scheduling among the people, ensuring that buses depart from point A to point B at designated times, thereby changing the existing transportation narrative in the state.
He highlighted that O’Link buses are equipped with advanced security features, including cameras, tracking devices, charging ports, and air conditioning, to ensure a comfortable and safe journey for passengers. According to him, “O’Link is a solution to Anambra State’s transportation challenges,” adding that a control room monitors bus activities in real-time to guarantee efficient service delivery.
The Manager further explained that the company is currently in its pilot phase, which began in February. Following this phase, they will collect and analyze data, including passenger numbers, pricing, and system functionality, to submit to the state government. This data will inform future improvements and optimization of the transportation system.
According to Mr. Obonyano, “O’ Link is committed to revolutionizing transportation in Anambra State by providing a comfortable, affordable, and secure experience for commuters. With amenities like air conditioning and charging ports, our fare from Awka to Onitsha is ₦800, offering exceptional value.
“By setting a new standard, we aim to drive healthy competition among transport operators, ultimately reducing transportation costs for the benefit of Anambra State citizens. This aligns with Governor Soludo’s vision of fostering a competitive environment that brings relief to commuters.
“Presently, we’re in the pilot phase, operating on the Awka-Onitsha route. However, we plan to expand our services to Ekwulobia, Nnewi, and other towns in Anambra State. Our operations include scheduled bus services, vehicle hire, and other transport solutions, leveraging our fleet while utilizing spaces provided by the state government,” he stated.
Mr. Obonyano revealed that O’Link has a vehicle manufacturing factory in Umunya, Oyi LGA, Anambra State where they assemble vehicles from start to finish. The factory produces various models, including the T6 and 2.7m, among others. Notably, their vehicles are also part of the state governor’s convoy, showcasing their quality and reliability.
The Operations Manager disclosed that after the pilot phase, O’Link plans to introduce a debit card system, similar to the Lagos State BRT model. This card will align with the federal government’s cashless policy, allowing users to recharge funds and have fares deducted automatically with each journey.
According to him, this initiative aims to modernize Anambra’s transportation system, bringing it in line with global standards.
Mr. Obonyano added that O’Link plans to onboard other motorists who wish to register their vehicles with the company in alignment with their standards, allowing them to operate under the company’s framework. However to maintain high professionalism, the company adopts a rigorous recruitment process, where applicants submit online applications, undergo thorough screening, and are personally vetted by the CEO before being hired.
“With a focus on sustainability, OMAA Motors is dedicated to producing energy-efficient vehicles that utilize hybrid technologies, specifically targeting CNG-powered and electric cars. This initiative is particularly timely, given Nigeria’s pressing need to shift from PMS to more environmentally friendly options like CNG and electric vehicles,” he emphasised.
