Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has denied claims that the National Assembly rejected his ministerial nomination, stating that President Bola Tinubu simply decided against it.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Monday, El-Rufai dismissed reports that his nomination was withdrawn due to a security report from the Department of State Services (DSS).
“Since I left office, the president publicly asked for my support, and I agreed, making it clear I wanted nothing in return. After two months of negotiations, we agreed on my nomination with certain conditions, but along the way, the president changed his mind,” he said.
El-Rufai insisted the National Assembly had no role in the decision, emphasizing that Tinubu personally chose to exclude him from the cabinet.
On the alleged security concerns, he challenged the narrative, questioning the existence of any negative report against him.

“What security issue did the National Assembly have against me? Where is the report? Many less qualified individuals made it through because the president wanted them. He simply changed his mind, and that’s his right,” he stated.
