One of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial ticket aspirants, Chief Obiora Okonkwo has asked the national leadership of the party to give him the ticket so he can win the governorship election for the party.
Okonkwo stated this on Wednesday when he was presented with the Expression of interest and nomination forms of the APC gubernatorial ticket in Abuja by Anambra Coalition for Progress change.
According to him, he has what it takes to win the election, since he has the 7 local Government areas of Anambra Central Senatorial District in his kitty.
He argued that it is easy to defeat the incumbent governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo because of his poor performance.
He said, “since he could not provide security for Anambra people in the last three and half years, he has no reason to seek for reelection.
Anambra people are known for business and without security, there is no way business could thrive, which was the situation in the last three years.
Okonkwo called all Anambra people to come out en mass to remove Soludo from office, as he described him as a man who does not take advice from anybody.
Further speaking he said, “I am not in this race alone.
We are against the present government in Anambra State because of the issue of security, issue of zero economic activities.
“I am encouraged by your support. Thank you very much for all you have done.
“I am calling all those who are not happy for what is happening in Anambra state to join the coalition.
“Soludo takes no advice from anybody. We are aware of the money Soludo is throwing around to stop me from getting ticket but l am prepare for the battle.
“We may not have the control in having the ticket but if we have, we have what it takes to give APC victory.”
He dismissed the insinuations that he was new in APC.
On his part, the leader of the Anambra Coalition for Progress, Chief Cyril Ndubusi Ezeani said the Coalition persuaded Okonkwo to come and contest and win the governorship election for the Anambra people.
Speaking about bad governance in Anambra, Ezeani said, “We need pipe bon water, We build our schools, go and find out in virtually every community. So what do we need? We simply need security, security for our businesses to flourish, for people to come from far and near to buy things in Onitsha and Nnewi and wherever that is the primary thing that every Anambra state person needs and that is not being provided. In fact it was just a few days ago that he woke up from his slumber and started what he is calling now AGU N CHE MBA and all that, and l know that it’s because he just realized that the election is coming up.”
