Anambra Govt, WHO Engages Oyi LG Chairman, Stakeholders On PHC Utilisation, Immunisation

The Anambra State Government, World Health Organisation (WHO), has engaged the Oyi Local Government Chairman and Stakeholders on Primary Healthcare (PHC) utilisation and immunisation.

State Commissioner for Health; Dr. Afam Ben Obidike explained that Primary Healthcare services and immunisation is crucial for improving overall public health.

Dr. Obidike said the increase in Primary Healthcare utilisation, immunisation helps in disease prevention, early detention and management of chronic conditions.

The engagement meeting held in the office of the Oyi Local Government Area (LGA) Chairman attracted the presence of the Traditional rulers, Prime Ministers and all the President Generals of five Communities that made the LGA.

This engagement meeting is for all of us to reason together inorder to improve on PHC utilisation, immunisation and in coverage in Oyi. Because the number of immunised children in this LGA from our research is not encouraging and we are happy that from my presentation everybody have accepted to work together to address the issue. That is why it is important for the Chairman, the Traditional rulers, President Generals, LG Health Supervisor and LG Health Director to work together as it regards supportive supervision in all the PHC’s in their area.

“Mayor please i appeal to you to support them financially, so that they can achieve succeess going forward. We are glad that this meeting has helped us to address some of the issues raised.” Dr Obidike state.

He also thanked the LG Chairman for accepting to enroll no fewer than 1000 people into the State Health Insurance Scheme.

“This insurance you offered to your people will help them to have access to necessary medical services and improve health outcomes,” he said.

Oyi LGA Chairman; Mr. Emmanuel Nweke promised to personally help supervised health activities in his LGA. He noted the importance of immunisation and assured of his commitment in improving the immunisation and vaccine coverage.

“It is our duty to improve service delivery, as well strengthen supervision in our PHC’s.” He announced that his government will enroll 1000 people free into the State Health Insurance Scheme.

The Chairman commended Governor Charles Soludo for appointing a proactive health commissioner that has helped transform the healthcare of the State.

Anambra State World Health Organisation Coordinator; Dr. Bonos Mohammed said that WHO is always ready and committed in helping the State.

Dr. Mohamed thanked the LG Chairman for his warm reception and determination to help address the issues raised during the meeting.

The Traditional Ruler of Awkuzu Community, Prof. Charles Anikweze on behalf of other traditional rulers pledged their total commitment and support in immunisation and vaccine coverage in their communities.
