The exercise, which was held on the 14th of October at the National Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, had over 50 Pyrates and non-members in attendance.

The Capoon of Zanas Deck Lagos, Nnamdi Agulonu, who led other members on the blood donation drive, said the association heeded the call to save lives, revealing it is the third time the organisation is embarking on blood donation exercise.

Agulonu explained that the blood donation programme is organised in fulfilment of one of the four compass points of NAS – ‘For Humanistic ideals’, which is designed to run twice in a year, June and October.

This is our contribution to our society, and we will continue to do this. This year, we have been involved in charity and we were also involved in the last general election. Our intervention programme cut-across all facet of the society.”

Industries, Stakeholders Lament On The Increase In Gas Prize

On his part, the President of NAS in Lagos, Chucks Onwudinjo, stressed that government hospital that benefited from the exercise was picked due to the peculiar nature of Lagos and the volume of accident and emergency patients being rushed into the facilities daily.

The Medical Director, National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, Dr. Mustapha Alimi, commended members of the Zanas Deck of the NAS for the kind gesture, imploring Nigerians to donate blood to indigent Nigerians.

Deputy Director, Haematology and Blood Transfusion Unit, Catherine Ogunlade, who represented the MD, urged other public-spirited organisations to emulate NAS by donating blood to the hospital.

The MD added that blood donors assist patients of all ages. “A lot of lives have been saved through blood donations and I hope people will continue to donate and save lives. People should also know that donation of blood makes the body healthy; people who donates blood are healthy. A healthy person can donate blood three times in a year.”
