In a decisive operation on Friday, December 27, 2024, troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade successfully thwarted a terrorist attack in Osina, Ideato North Local Government Area, Imo State. Acting on a distress call, the troops swiftly responded, engaging the assailants in a fierce gun battle that forced the terrorists into a disorderly retreat.

Tragically, two security personnel lost their lives, and one remains unaccounted for. The attackers also seized an AK-47 rifle and a tear gas launcher during the confrontation.

Undaunted by the initial encounter, the troops launched a hot pursuit, culminating in another firefight at Nkwachi Community. In this engagement, one terrorist was neutralized, and an AK-47 rifle loaded with ammunition was recovered. The operation extended into the Umalouma forest, where the superior firepower of the military compelled the terrorists to abandon their weapons and flee with severe injuries.

The operation resulted in substantial recoveries, including five AK-47 rifles, one Fabrique Nationale rifle, two magazines, and a tear gas launcher. Determined to secure the region, the troops have intensified their efforts to eliminate remaining threats and restore lasting peace.

Reassuring residents of their commitment to a secure and peaceful Yuletide season, the military urged terrorist operatives to surrender at the nearest military base, warning that further resistance would have grave consequences. They also called on citizens to support their efforts by providing timely intelligence on the activities and hideouts of criminal elements.

The Nigerian Armed Forces further reiterated their dedication to protecting lives, promoting stability, and fostering peace throughout the region.
