The Abia State House of Assembly has condemned publications in the media that she mandated the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu to apologize to the Assembly over misunderstanding with the member for Ohafia South State Constituency, Hon Kalu Mba Nwoko.

There has been publications insinuating that the House called out the Deputy Governor to apologize for instructing security Operatives to arrest Hon. Mba Nwoko during the Local Government elections for asking about election results sheets.

Addressing newsmen on Thursday, the Deputy Speaker and House Committee Chairman on Media, Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie, debunked such news, stressing that the House never made such resolution mandating the Deputy Governor to tender an unreserved apology to the House.

He stated that the Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu and Hon. Kalu Mba Nwoko, are brothers, hence there was no need for the Assembly to pass resolution mandating the Deputy to apologize to the House.

Rt.Hon Okezie, noted that twins, brothers from same parents disagree despite their bond, stressing that there was no need for the House to mediate in the matter since it was just a mere misunderstanding which is expected in every human society.

The Deputy Speaker said, “It has become imperative that I address this issue as the spokesperson of the House. Let it be on record that there was never a time the House mandated the Deputy Speaker through any resolution to apologize to the House. These things happen in every human society. Misunderstandings can never be divorced from the society.”

He stressed the need for people to always get the right information before shipping it out on social media, saying that publishing fake and unverified reports, will set the society on fire.

The Deputy Speaker, reaffirmed the robust relationship between the Legislature and the Executive arms in the State, insisting that the relationship will continue to flourish as it is meant to benefit Abians and the State in general.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of bills that have been passed into law in the State, pointing out that majority have been implemented and already benefiting Abians, pointing out that the House will continue to deliberate and institute bills that will favour Abians.

Rt. Hon. Okezie also congratulated the newly sworn in Mayors who emerged after the November 2nd LG polls, urging them to ensure they provide dividends of democracy to people at the grassroots in line with the tenets of the local government administration.
