Imo State Govt Dismisses Allegations Of Supreme Court Judge Disowning Judgement

…Describes It As Baseless.

The Imo State government has strongly condemned recent claims circulating on social media, describing them as false and desperate attempts to undermine Governor Hope Uzodimma. These claims suggest that a Supreme Court judge allegedly apologized to the people of Imo over a ruling made five years ago. The government labeled the reports as part of an ongoing smear campaign to damage the governor’s reputation.

Hon. Declan Emelumba, Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, expressed disappointment that despite previous failed efforts, the originators of such falsehoods continue in their attempts to tarnish Uzodimma’s profile. He vowed that the government would not allow these untruths to mislead the public, especially Imo residents.

“We will consistently counter these lies to ensure the truth prevails, no matter how outlandish the allegations may be,” Emelumba stated.

He further pointed out the lack of credibility in the fake reports, highlighting that no specific name or details were provided about the alleged judge or the event where the apology supposedly took place. Emelumba noted that those clinging to the Supreme Court’s judgment against their political aspirations have repeatedly refused to acknowledge their defeat, even after Uzodimma decisively won last year’s governorship election.

The Commissioner also reminded the opposition that following the Supreme Court’s decision, the PDP sought a review, which the court firmly rejected. Despite having another chance to challenge Uzodimma in the subsequent election, he won resoundingly in all 27 local government areas of Imo State. “At this point, it would be more fitting for them to accept defeat and move on,” he said.

Emelumba criticized social media platforms for enabling the spread of unverified claims, particularly those aimed at tarnishing the reputation of both Governor Uzodimma and the judiciary.
