In response to a reported directive from the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), urging a two-day sit-at-home on October 21 and 22, the Imo State Police Command, in partnership with the Armed Forces and other security agencies, has mobilized personnel to key areas across the state. The deployment aims to ensure public safety and protect lives and property both in and around the state capital.
In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, it was revealed that security forces are conducting ‘Show of Force Operations and Confidence Building Patrols’ throughout the state in reaction to the alleged threat. The Command denounced the sit-at-home order as illegal, encouraging residents to continue their normal routines without fear.
“From today, October 19, through October 23, heightened visibility policing will be in place across the state. Detectives are also carrying out reconnaissance missions to gather actionable intelligence,” the statement emphasized, highlighting efforts to reassure the public and maintain peace.
The Command called on the public to remain calm and vigilant, advising residents to stay aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency hotline at 08034773600.
Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, extended his gratitude to the people of Imo State for their cooperation, assuring them that the Command prioritizes their safety above all else. “Together, we can strengthen the peace and security in our beloved state,” the statement concluded.
