…Inspects Event Sites.
The committee established by Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), to ensure the successful organization of the 2025 Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival has swiftly begun its work.
The Committee under the Chairmanship of the State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida held its maiden meeting on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi with a commitment to ensuring the success of the 2025 edition of the event.
Statement issued on Thursday by Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser (SA) to Kebbi State Governor on Media and Publicity said the Chairman of the Committee, the State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, requested the members to brace up for a successful fishing festival.
“This meeting is to foster understanding among committee members on the subject matter, Governor Nasir Idris has entrusted us with a onerous assignment for the socioeconomic prosperity of Kebbi, we must uphold such trust”, he charged members.
After the meeting, the deputy Governor led other members on inspection of the event sites in Argungu with a stop over at the Palace of the Emir, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammadu Mera, to pay homage to the Monarch.
Sen. Tafida informed him that the members visited the Palace to seek for royal blessings and support for the success of the festival.
“Your Royal Highness, you are the custodian of Argungu culture and tradition, we are here before you in your capacity as revered Royal Father”,
“We desire your assistance and advice for the successful end to this significant project of the fishing festival”, the Committee Chairman remarked.
In response, the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammadu Mera acknowledged the peaceful environment prevailing in Kebbi State since the advent of the Kauran Gwandu administration.
“I am expressing sincere appreciation to Governor Nasir Idris for resuscitating the famous Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival, he has granted our request expeditiously”,
“We pray that the festival would be celebrated with all glory, it is an economic power house of Kebbi State”,
“The Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival has assumed global dimension, it has been listed in UNESCO Calendar, it is now recognised worldwide, from Europe to Asia and the Americas”,
“The festival showcases an entirely Argungu cultural and traditional dynamics, it has become a world class tourists’ attraction”, the Monarch narrated.
The Emir advised the Committee to extend invitation to all parts of the globe and seek for international cooperation in organising and hosting the event.
“You should try and enter into Momerandum of Understanding, MOU, with Global Partners on Cultural Skills to boost the economy”,
“On behalf of the entire inhabitants of Argungu Emirate, we thank His Excellency, Governor Nasir Idris, for his foresight in reviving the fishing festival, we are greatly honoured”, the Emir remarked.
Members of the Committee led by the deputy Governor inspected the Kanta Museum, River Mala where water sports are held and the Matan Fada River which is the main venue of the fishing event in Argungu.
They also assessed facilities at the Fishing Village, the Grand Fishing Hotel and the Polo Ground, Argungu suburbs.
