The Offa Descendants’ Union (ODU) in Offa, Kwara State, on Thursday petitioned the state government to probe former Senate President Bukola Saraki, former Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed and other people whose names were mentioned by the convicted robbers.
It would be recalled that the police investigation into the 2018 unfortunate Offa robbery, which claimed 33 lives, revealed that the gang leaders of the robbers had connections with people of means in Kwara, including Dr Saraki, ex-governor Ahmed and his Chief-of-Staff, among others.
ODU’s petitioning of the state government comes few days after Kwara State High Court Justice Haleema Salman passed judgment on the Offa robbery, convicting and sentencing five suspects to death by hanging for their involvement in the robbery that claimed innocent lives.
Following the judgement, the chairman of the union, Chief Tajudeen Shittu, at a press conference held in Offa last week noted that ODU “will not relent in pursuing any action by wrongdoers and ensuring that full justice is achieved for the heartless souls, including those who had links with them during the investigation.”
