The Federal Government has announced plans to restructure the 115 Federal Unity Colleges across the country into basic and secondary schools.

This decision was revealed by the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, during the Annual General Meeting of Unity College Principals held in Abuja on Tuesday.

The event was themed “Entrepreneurship Education: A Panacea for Self-Reliance and National Development.”

Dr. Sununu explained that the restructuring aligns with the National Policy on Education and aims to attract additional funding for infrastructure improvements, enhance teacher welfare, and create new employment opportunities.

He emphasized that this initiative would support the government’s goal of fostering an entrepreneurial spirit among students, which is crucial for national development and combating unemployment.

“The unbundling of Federal Unity Colleges will not only improve the educational infrastructure but also help address critical issues such as teachers’ welfare and the overall quality of education,” Sununu stated.

He called on principals to collaborate closely to drive these changes and support the students in developing essential entrepreneurial skills.

Sununu also urged principals to address social issues, promote a culture of maintenance among students, and work with local communities to ensure the safety and progress of the schools.
