The Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti has urged NYSC Corps Members to be selfless in service, and humble, while being diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the citizens.
Speaking at the closing ceremony and terminal parade for the 2024 Batch ‘B’ B Stream II Corps Members at Umunna Bende NYSC Abia Permanent Orientation camp in Bende Local Government Area of the state, Gov. Otti also charged them not to cast aspersions on the people’s way of life but rather respect and embrace their culture.
The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kanu, reminded them that they were not just serving the nation in Abia State but are ambassadors of the State by virtue of their posting.
He assured the NYSC members in the state, that his administration will do everything within her powers to ensure their welfare and safety during their service year in the state.
He commended the Corps Members for their discipline, hard work, also encouraged them to carry on with those national core values of patriotism, religious tolerance, discipline, integrity, dignity of labour and self reliance instilled in them during the orientation course.
Earlier in her address, the State Coordinator, NYSC Abia, Barr. Mrs. Gladys Adama urged the Corps Members to accept their postings in good faith and settle down quickly at their places of primary assignments, and host communities to contribute their quota to the development of the state and the society at large.
She admonished them not to live reckless lives and be accountable for the way they spend their service year.
Furthermore, Adama urged them to ensure they continue with their post camp Skills Acquisition Training to perfect what they started learning in camp.
About 2, 000 Corps members comprising of 887 Males and 1,113 females took part in the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream II orientation course in the state.
