The Abia State government has announced that schools in the state will now resume for the 2024/2025 academic year on Wednesday, September 23.

Prince Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, made the announcement during a briefing on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti on Monday.

The resumption date was postponed from the original date of Monday, September 16, due to a national public holiday.

Kanu also revealed that the state’s teachers’ training program will continue from September 11 to 20, 2024, to complete the training of an additional 1,800 master trainers. This program is part of the state government’s broader initiative to enhance the education sector and is a key component of the preparations for the new academic year.

He said, “It will be recalled that 200 teachers were trained last week, and this time around, the training will be held in three locations within the state, including Aba, Umuahia, and Ohafia zones.”
