Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has honored renowned folktale music icon, ‘Gentleman’ Mike Ejeagha, by renaming Obinagu Road, reconstructed by his administration, to Mike Ejeagha Crescent.
This gesture recognizes Ejeagha’s significant contributions to the state’s cultural heritage.
During the commissioning of four roads in the Abakpa Nike area, including Mike Ejeagha Crescent, Governor Mbah described the event as a fulfillment of his administration’s social contract with the people.
He reiterated his commitment to human-oriented projects and paid homage to Ejeagha at his residence, demonstrating the state government’s gratitude for his contributions.
Ejeagha’s 1983 song, “Ka Esi Le Onye Isi Oche,” gained renewed popularity due to a viral dance challenge initiated by comedian Brain Jotter.
Governor Mbah’s recognition of Ejeagha’s legacy underscores the state’s appreciation for its indigenous legends and commitment to preserving their cultural impact.
The governor also announced upcoming infrastructure projects, including the dualization of Penocks Junction on the Enugu-Onitsha Road and the construction of 141 roads and 20 rural roads, ensuring Abakpa’s inclusion in the development plans.
