Mrs. Priscilla Otti, the First Lady of Abia State, has expressed deep sadness and condemnation over a horrific incident of domestic violence in Umuahia, where a man, Lawrence Uzor, allegedly gouged out his wife’s eyes for ritual purposes.
The victim, Amarachi Lawrence, a 38-year-old teacher, was attacked by her husband while she was asleep.
The landlady, Madam Lovejane Nwaiwu, who witnessed the incident, was also injured while trying to intervene.
Mrs. Otti visited the victims at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, and donated cash for their treatment and upkeep.
She assured that she would take immediate action to ensure the victim’s safety and well-being.
The Medical Director of the FMC, Prof. Azubuike Onyebuchi, reported that the victim suffered genital mutilation and attempted eye gouging. The suspect, Lawrence Uzor, is in custody.
The victim’s family has appealed to the authorities to take action and support their sister’s recovery.
The incident has sparked outrage and calls for action against domestic violence in the state.
