Oshiomhole Slams Edo First Lady Over Comment on Governorship Candidates’ Marital Status

Sharing is caring

Former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has criticized the state’s First Lady, Betsy Obaseki, for her comment that only the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, has a wife among the contenders for the state governorship election.

During the PDP’s campaign flag-off, Mrs. Obaseki introduced Ighodalo’s wife, Ifeyinwa, to the crowd, emphasizing the importance of having a woman in the Government House.

She stated that only Ighodalo has a wife among the candidates, implying that this makes him a better candidate.

Oshiomhole, however, faulted the First Lady’s comment in an interview with TVC.

He stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, has children and has invested in their education.

He added that their mother has been present at recent campaigns, contradicting the First Lady’s claim.

Oshiomhole’s response highlights the controversy surrounding the First Lady’s comment, which some may see as an attempt to sway voters based on the candidates’ marital status rather than their qualifications or policies.

The exchange also underscores the intensity of the ongoing governorship campaign in Edo State.
