NYSC Remains Best Youth Organised Prigramme Globally – Gov Otti

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has described the National Youth Service Corps scheme as one of the few positive legacies of the nation in the past three (3) decades, which has continued to rank as the best and most organized of all global youth programmes, as such must be supported to deliver, more on her mandate.

Otti stated this in his address at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Corps Members deployed to the State, on Friday, at the Umunna Bende LGA NYSC Abia Permanent Orientation Camp.

Governor Otti who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Chief Cyril Nwaigwe said that his administration was poised to give the scheme in the state one of the best orientation camps in the nation, and that plans was under way to increase the state allowances of Corps Members posted to the state, particularly public schools.

While welcoming the Corps Members to the state, the Governor extended his invitation to the youth Corps Members, to join his administration in building the new Abia of our dream, even as he urged them to take some time, during their service year in the state to explore the hospitality, industry and rich cultural heritage of Abia people.

In her welcome address at the event, the State Coordinator NYSC Abia, Barr. Mrs Gladys Adama, reported that the 2, 000 duly registered Corps Members in the state were already adjusting to the regimented camp environment.

She assured the state Government, of the commitment of NYSC to the development of the State in the area of health care delivery, education, agriculture and rural infrastructure.

While appreciating the Governor for his support to the scheme in the state, Mrs. Adama said that she hopes that the rehabilitation works on critical facilities of the scheme as promised by the State government will soon materialize.

In his own address the Chairman NYSC Governing Board in the State, Sir. Nwaobilor Ananaba, whose address was read by the Head Of Sports Department, Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Mrs. Ifeoma Mba said that the Alex Otti led administration places high premium on hard work and excellence and are fond of rewarding Corps Members who contribute immensely to the development of the state.

He therefore urged the Corps Members to go all out to render those invaluable selfless, humanitarian services to their host communities when posted.

A total of 2, 000 Corps Members were sworn-in by Honorable Justice Chido Wakama who represented the Chief Judge of the Abia State, Honourable Justice Lilian Abai.
