Anambra State Prepares for Looming Flood, Activates 27 IDP Camps

Sharing is caring

The Anambra State Government has taken proactive measures to mitigate the impact of the anticipated flood by activating 27 internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.

This move comes as the River Niger’s water level continues to rise, posing a threat to seven local government areas, including Ayamelum, Anambra East, Anambra West, Ogbaru, Ekwusigo, Ihiala, and Awka North.

Governor Charles Soludo has assured that the state is working closely with the federal government to handle the situation, and preparations are underway to deal with the expected massive flooding.

The government has distributed 24,000 bags of rice to the affected areas and is gathering resources to mitigate the impact of the flood.

Residents of riverine communities are already evacuating to higher ground, with the traditional ruler of Omor Community, Igwe Chidume Oranu, advising his people to vacate the flood-prone areas and harvest their crops promptly to avoid losses.
