The planned meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) scheduled for today has been postponed to Wednesday, August 28.
ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, confirmed the postponement, which was initially announced by the Minister of Education on Friday.
The meeting was intended to address the union’s grievances and prevent a nationwide strike by public university lecturers.
ASUU had threatened to strike over the Federal Government’s alleged unwillingness to honor the 2009 renegotiated agreement, citing issues with welfare, funding, and university proliferation.
The reason for the postponement was not disclosed.
The meeting aims to find a resolution to the ongoing dispute and avoid another ASUU strike, which would impact the academic calendar and students’ education.
