Man Battling For Life, Many Injured During Robbery Attack In Iyi-Owa Odekpe Community

On Tuesday morning, the residents of Iyi-Owa Odekpe community located in Ogbaru local government area of Anambra state cried out in agony as miscreants largely suspected to be thug invaded their community.

Following the attack, one unidentified man has been confirmed dead and an unconfirmed number of people reportedly sustained gunshot wounds.

Eyewitnesses reported to the press that the thugs burnt some vehicles as they were destroying all obstructions on their way.

A young man identified himself as the newly elected president of Iyi-Owa Odekpe Landlord Association, Mr. Sunday Obinze narrated the genesis of the crisis to news correspondents.

Obinze said that the unfortunate crisis emerged because of non-indigenes landlord association election disputes in the area.

He further narrated that there was conflict of interest and eruption of violence on the day of the said election as he was declared winner after all attempts by undisclosed hoodlums to disrupt the elections which carried on in another location.

Obinze went ahead to say that the perpetrators were furious with the outcome of the election went which resulted in a deadly rampage on Tuesday morning, as the thugs stormed the community at about 7:30am and destroyed lives and property.

One Mr. Okolie Chukwunonso, who introduced himself as the newly elected secretary of the union alleged that the hoodlums also broke into his pharmaceutical shops, made away with 4 million naira and other valuable items in his shop.

Mr. Okolie also accused the President General of Iyi-Owa Odekpe and the Monarch of being the architects of the attack. He also called on His Excellency, Governor Soludo to come to the aid of the community.

The accused President General of the community, Mr. Innocent Nwanosike has come out to say that he had nothing to do whatsoever with the attacks, he further said that he received news of the attack just like everyone else and noted that the dispute is a case of election dispute.

The state police public relations officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident as soon as he was contacted. He also assured news correspondents that the police are on top of the situation.
