Harford Oseke, a renowned politician and former Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, has died at the age of 64.
The news of his death has sent shockwaves across the state, with many mourning the loss of a dedicated public servant.
The circumstances surrounding Oseke’s death are still unclear, with conflicting reports emerging. Some sources suggest that he collapsed during his regular exercise routine at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka on Monday, while others indicate that he had been battling an illness and was hospitalized until his passing.
Oseke, a native of Umuawulu in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, was a law graduate and had recently completed his Ph.D. in Public Administration at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. His political career spanned several years, during which he served as a member of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
During Peter Obi’s administration, Oseke contested and won a seat in the Anambra State House of Assembly, where he rose to become the Majority Leader and eventually, the Deputy Speaker.
His contributions to the state’s legislative arm were significant, and his passing has left a void in the political landscape.
While there is no official statement from the family or the state government, a close relative described Oseke’s death as “one too many,” noting that Anambra has lost several fine politicians in quick succession recently.
